Steven W. Wingo, Managing Partner

Steve was born in Augusta , Georgia on March 21, 1969 and has made Ocala his permanent home since elementary school. A 1987 graduate of Forest High School , he was a member of the National Honor Society, won a state title in tennis, and participated in numerous other school-related activities including cross country running and weight lifting.

After high school Steve attended the University of Florida , where he obtained both his Bachelor of Arts (1991) and Juris Doctorate (1994) degrees. While at the University of Florida he became a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and various leadership and academic honoraries, including Florida Blue Key, Omicron Delta Kappa, Golden Key National Honor Society, and Florida Cicerones. While in law school he also was a member of the University of Florida College of Law's Trial Team.

Steve returned to Ocala following graduation from law school to begin working as an associate with Ayres, Cluster, Curry, McCall & Briggs, P.A, gaining experience in numerous areas of civil trial practice including personal injury cases on behalf of accident victims, commercial litigation, and employment litigation. Over time Steve began to focus a higher percentage of his practice on the representation of accident victims while at the Ayres, Cluster firm and became partner in that firm in the spring of 1999.

In January 2001, Steve joined The Briggs Law Firm, P.A. as a partner to continue his career in a practice devoted solely to representing the rights of accident victims. His practice there involved representing accident victims in personal injury cases of all types, including claims involving nursing home liability, medical malpractice, auto accidents, premises liability, Federal Tort Claims Act cases, products liability claims, and insurance disputes. He is an Eagle Member of the Florida Justice Association, a member of the American Association for Justice, and a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Steve is actively involved in numerous activities with the Florida Justice Association, including serving as a multi-year member of the Vanguard Fundraising Committee, a former member of the Young Lawyer's Board, and now as an appointed member of the FJA board for the 2008-2009 board term. He also served on the statewide finance committee for Florida gubernatorial candidate Rod Smith in 2006. In March of 2009, Steve began his own practice, Steven Wingo, Attorney At Law, and has devoted his career to assisting accident victims and consumers.

In addition to his legal work and volunteer efforts fighting for the rights of accident victims through the FJA, Steve also volunteers for multiple nonprofit organizations in Central Florida . He was recently honored as the 2007 Volunteer of the Year at the Marion County Family YMCA, where he still serves on the board and Executive Committee of the board. He served more than 2 years as the YMCA board chairman, from January 2006 through the spring of 2008. He also currently serves as a board member for the Ocala Mountain Bike Association and is a part of the volunteer Bike Patrol, certified as a patroller by the International Mountain Bike Association. 

Steve is an avid mountain biker and road cyclist and enjoys hiking, kayaking, and many other outdoor pursuits. He completed the New York Marathon in less than 4 hours in 2005 and was a finisher of the Cohutta 100 Mountain Bike Race in 2009. He lives in Ocala with his wife, Suzanne, and their two daughters, Jordan and Allie. Jordan is his game day buddy for Gator football--they attend all Gator home games together without fail. Allie shares her father's love of nature and they spend their time together talking about, planning, and taking trips to our great National Parks and Forests and discussing conservation issues. He feels lucky to have such a wonderful and beautiful wife who puts up with all his pursuits and is such a great mother.
