A provision in a contract stating that some or all of the terms of the contract will be altered or voided by the occurrence of a specific event. Solutions range from paying the rightful property owner for the use of the property to the court-ordered removal of the structure.

A law adopted by some cities or towns with desirable vistas -- such as those in the mountains or overlooking the ocean -- that protects a property owner from having his or her view obstructed by growing trees. View ordinances don't cover buildings or other structures that may block views.

A gift of property. The IRS allows you to take an income tax deduction for the value of donations made to charitable organizations who are recognized as such by the IRS.
