About Christian

Christian's practice is devoted to the representation of insurance companies and their insureds. He particularly focuses on the defense of professional liability, products liability, toxic tort, construction defect/accident and automobile claims. Christian has handled a wide array of complex litigation matters from inception to verdict in New York state and federal courts.

During the years 1998 through 2001, Christian handled claims for AIG Technical Service's Toxic Tort Claims Department in New York City. His tenure at AIG provided him with the opportunity to learn about how an insurance company operates internally and how insurers view and evaluate claims.

In 1988 Christian enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged as a Second Class Petty officer in 1997. Christian's specialty was electronics and was awarded two Commandant's Letters of Commendation prior to being discharged. He was also involved in various duties such as search and rescue, pollution response and maritime law enforcement.

Christian attended college at night during his last four years in the U.S. coast Guard and earned his B.A. degree in 1997 from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Subsequently, Christian attended Seton Hall University School of Law earning his J.D. in 2001. Christian also attended law school at night while working for AIG Technical Services.

Significant Representative Matters

  • Participated in the trial of a construction accident case in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Plaintiff had the tips of four fingers severed and the main question was whether New York Labor Law 240(1) and 241(6) applied to the accident. Christian represented the owner of the building and the general contractor. The jury returned a defense verdict.
     
  • Participated in the trial of premises liability action in the Bronx County Supreme Court. Plaintiff/tenant claimed that a piece of sheet rock from her ceiling fell on her head and back. Plaintiff's alleged injuries were traumatic brain injury and injury to her upper and lower back. Christian represented the plaintiff's landlord. Plaintiff had demanded $10 million to settle. At the end of almost 30 days of trial, an offer of $1,250,000 was made to settle, which was refused by plaintiff. The jury returned a verdict of approximately $687,000.

  • Participated in the trial of a construction accident case involving New York Labor Law 240(1) and 241(6). Case settled favorably during the cross examination of plaintiff's first witness.

  • Tried a bench trial in a commercial book account case in Essex County Superior court in New Jersey. Christian's client was a winding down corporation and sued to collect $50,000 in unpaid invoices. After trial Judge Edith Payne awarded $42,000 of the $50,000 to Christian's client. After settlement of the defendant's counter-claims, Christian's client received $33,000.
