Ellen Gregory has practiced environmental and OSHA law for over 20 years.  She has represented Fortune 500 companies, small to medium-sized businesses, municipalities, and individuals.  Her environmental work includes general compliance counseling, administrative enforcement actions, permitting matters, spill and release reporting and response, Superfund cases, RCRA corrective actions, underground storage tank compliance, soil and groundwater remediation, brownfields redevelopment, and environmental due diligence for real estate and corporate mergers and acquisitions.  Her OSHA work includes administrative enforcement cases, dozens of workplace fatalities, and general compliance counseling.

Before starting her own boutique law practice in 2010, she worked at large international law firms—Seyfarth Shaw LLP and Jones Day (Chicago, IL) and at smaller regional law firms—Ice Miller LLP (Indianapolis, IN) and Parker Milliken (Los Angeles, CA)

Ellen Gregory Law provides an affordable alternative to the large corporate law firms that so often dominate the market for environmental legal services.  Ms. Gregory understands the financial constraints that typically accompany environmental matters.  Unfortunately, the possible outcomes are frequently a choice between a bad result and a worse one.  Ms. Gregory’s belief is that the first consideration in taking on a new environmental matter should be, “Does it make financial sense for the client?”  For example, if an enforcement case would cost more money to appeal than the client would pay in fines, she will advise the client against retaining her in that case.  

She will also pursue every avenue available to recover the client’s costs from other liable parties.  For example, an owner of contaminated property may be able to recover the cost of cleaning up the site, and even the legal fees of the action, from prior owners and operators, lessees of the property, or general liability insurance carriers.
