The many types of information presented to a judge or jury designed to convince them of the truth or falsity of key facts. And insurance companies require appraisals to determine the amount of damage done to covered property before settling insurance claims.

A sale of a house in which the proceeds fall short of what the owner still owes on the mortgage.
