That meant I had a significant amount of real world experience and unlike many in our field, developed a kind personality along the way. As a senior communications executive I drove strategic communications and crisis management at IBM, JPMorgan, Siemens Healthcare, and Experian. Additionally, I spent six years in Washington, working as a press secretary for two of the most powerful members of the United States Congress. What changed: After a while, I just got tired of working for the nameless, faceless corporations and had enough of the partisan politics of Washington. I decided I wanted to help real people in crisis and focus efforts as a compassionate attorney. And here I am… The most important element in choosing a lawyer is finding the right connection. For the first half of her career, Debra Whitson was a prosecutor, and she spent the latter half specializing in Matrimonial and Family Law. She is an experienced mediator and collaborative divorce practitioner as well as a recognized expert in working with victims of domestic violence. Debra believes that legal battles are more harmful to families than helpful, and is passionate about helping people find ways to make their own decisions for their families, rather than leaving their outcomes in the hands of a stranger in a black robe. When court is unavoidable, Debra aims to educate and support people to make the legal process less costly, scary, uncertain, and stressful.

Ms. Florio is a cum laude graduate of Pace Law School, obtaining a joint Juris Doctor and Master's Degree in Public Administration. She graduated magna cum laude from Fordham University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Ms. Florio served as Principal Law Clerk to the Honorable Vito J. Titone, Sr. Associate Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals, and an additional ten years as Principal Law Clerk to various State Supreme Court, County Court and Court of Claims Judges. She is a former Assistant District Attorney in the Appeals Bureau of the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, and has argued before the New York State Court of Appeals and the Appellate Division, Second Department. She presently serves on the Board of Governors of Daytop, and is Co-Chair of the Criminal Law Committee of the Westchester Women's Bar Association.
