Stephen D. Silbert, Attorney

Stephen D. Silbert received a BA (summa cum laude) from Claremont McKenna College in 1964. During his senior year of college, Mr. Silbert also attended Claremont Graduate School and was awarded a Masters of Business Education at the time of his graduation from college. Mr. Silbert received a JD from the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned Order of the Coif honors.

Mr. Silbert began practicing law in Los Angeles in 1967, joining the firm of Wyman, Bautzer, Rothman & Kuchel as an associate. He became the firm's youngest partner in 1970, the only associate in the history of the firm to become a partner in three years. He became one of three members of the management committee of Wyman, Bautzer and subsequently became managing partner of the firm in 1980, by then a firm of 120 lawyers.

During the period Mr. Silbert was with Wyman, Bautzer, he was in charge of the firm's corporate and transaction department and handled numerous major corporate and business transactions for the firm, including several of the then-largest transactions in the country. Mr. Silbert also served as personal attorney to one of the firm's largest clients, Kirk Kerkorian.

Mr. Silbert left Wyman Bautzer in 1985 when he was hired full-time by Mr. Kerkorian, who was then the majority shareholder of MGM/UA Communications Co. and MGM Grand, Inc. In that capacity, Mr. Silbert supervised both from a business and legal standpoint many of Mr. Kerkorian's most significant investments. In 1986, Mr. Silbert was elected President and Chief Operating Officer of MGM/UA Communications Co., staying with the company until its sale four years later.

In 1991, Mr. Silbert returned to the full-time practice of law with a group of his former Wyman, Bautzer partners at the Firm.  In the course of Mr. Silbert's 30-plus years as a business lawyer, he has handled numerous large and complex transactions, including transactions which were valued in excess of one billion dollars, relating to registration of securities, acquisitions, dispositions, corporate takeover offers and tender offers.
