Derek provides extensive estate planning counsel to individuals and families, including assisting clients with wills and trusts, wealth management, estate tax planning, charitable giving, medicaid planning and family business succession. Derek also provides estate and probate representation.

Derek assists clients in all aspects of forming new businesses, conducting commercial transactions, negotiating contracts, and in litigating disputes. Derek has special experience with entrepreneurs, service businesses, distributors, and technology companies.

Real Estate (Commercial and Residential)

Derek handles commercial real estate transactions and has extensive experience representing clients in commercial lease negotiations including negotiations for retail space. In addition, Derek handles residential real estate transactions on behalf of buyers, sellers, lenders and title insurers.

Intellectual Property and Technology Law

Derek advises clients as to copyright, trademark and licensing issues. He has experience representing authors, artists and software developers in all aspects of the marketing, licensing and selling of their creative works.

Derek advises clients as to cybersecurity and privacy, with experience related to both on-premises and cloud computing, data center co-location/hosting/licensing, and health care and financial industry data privacy and liability.
