Please include all relevant details from your case including where, when, and who it involves. Case details that can effectively describe the legal situation while also staying concise generally receive the best responses from lawyers.

I received my Juris Doctor and Master of Social Work degrees from Loyola University Chicago with a certificate in child law and a concentration in non-profit program management and development. There, I also received a public interest recognition award and a leadership and service award.

Before forming Hunsinger Law Group, LLC, I worked with multiple disenfranchised populations in various parts of the world. For example, I worked with refugees in southern Mexico at the United Nations, conducted field research about child domestic servitude in Tanzania, and assisted with representing high-risk youth in South Africa at the University of Pretoria's Child Law Centre. In fact, a case wherein I drafted a brief about triple jeopardy for students, received a favorable opinion from the Constitutional Court of South Africa (USA's Supreme Court equivalent).

In the United States, I also gained valuable experience at Loyola University's Civitas ChildLaw Center and Northwestern's Bluhm Legal Clinic's Child and Family Justice Center as a student attorney appointed by the court to represent children in custody disputes and protection proceedings. Within that capacity, I conducted home visits investigating the child's safety within the environment. I also met with incarcerated youth and adult clients, writing reports for the legal team about the clients' well-being and institutional adjustment. In addition, I represented juveniles, parolee candidates, and people with disabilities in hearings.

My past non-profit experiences include helping one non-profit program increase revenue by 25% in 6-months, drafting mission statements, creating and implementing a mental health screening process for a volunteer program, writing a training component for behavioral health practitioners, specifically a curriculum about military sexual assault, organizing summits that connect service providers to families who lost loved ones, analyzing legislation pertaining to a non-profit's interests and writing fact sheets and briefs to inform staff.
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Based on my client's testimonial, I believe that the emotional support and guidance I provided had the biggest impact on their experience. As a divorce lawyer, I understand that the divorce process can be emotionally draining, and it's important to provide empathy and understanding along with legal expertise and advocacy. In this case, I worked closely with my client to provide emotional support and guidance throughout the divorce process. I recognized that my client was going through a difficult time and needed someone who could listen and understand their concerns. By providing emotional support and empathy, I was able to help my client manage their expectations and cope with the emotional toll of the process. Of course, I also provided legal expertise and advocacy, helping my client understand their legal rights and options, negotiating a fair settlement agreement, and advocating for their position in court. The positive outcome of the case, and my client's gratitude for my support, left me feeling fulfilled and satisfied knowing that I had made a positive difference in my clients life during a challenging time. Overall, I believe that my combination of legal expertise, advocacy, and emotional support had a significant impact on my client's experience and wellbeing during the divorce process. It's rewarding to hear positive feedback from clients and know that I'm making a difference in people's lives.

How did you build a successful practice?

As a young attorney, I knew that building a successful law practice would be a challenging task. However, armed with a clear business plan and a determination to succeed, I set out to make my mark in the legal industry. One of the first steps I took was to focus my practice on a specific area of law. By dedicating myself to this area, I was able to establish myself as a knowledgeable and experienced attorney. This allowed me to stand out from other attorneys and better understand the nuances and complexities of the law in this area. To build strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and referral sources, I focused on providing excellent client service. I made sure to be responsive, communicative, and transparent with clients, and I always made sure they understood the legal process and felt supported throughout their case. This approach paid off, as satisfied clients referred their friends and family to my practice, and my reputation grew. To stay up to date on legal developments, I attended conferences and seminars, read legal publications, and participated in professional organizations. I leveraged technology to streamline my practice, improve communication with clients, and automate administrative tasks. This allowed me to save time and provide a better client experience. Seeking feedback from clients and colleagues was also critical in helping me continuously improve. I listened carefully to their suggestions and criticisms and worked to improve my skills and knowledge to better serve my clients. All of these efforts paid off, as my practice grew steadily over time. Today, I am proud to have built a successful law practice that is known for its legal knowledge, excellent client service, and strong relationships with clients and referral sources. While the journey was not always easy, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my clients and make a positive difference in their lives.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Going through a divorce can be a difficult and emotional process, and it\\\'s important to have the right legal representation to help you navigate this challenging time. But with so many divorce attorneys to choose from, how do you pick the right one for your case? Here are some tips to help you choose the right attorney for your divorce: 1. Look for experience: When it comes to divorce, you want an attorney who has experience handling cases like yours. Look for an attorney who practices mostly in family law and has a proven track record of successfully handling divorce cases. 2. Check their reputation: Do your research and read reviews from past clients. Look for an attorney who has a reputation for being professional, knowledgeable, and responsive. 3. Consider their communication style: Divorce can be a complex and emotionally charged process, and it\\\'s important to have an attorney who is not only skilled in legal matters but also able to communicate with you in a way that makes you feel comfortable and informed. Look for an attorney who takes the time to listen to your concerns and is able to explain legal concepts in a way that is easy to understand. 4. Determine the cost: The cost of hiring an attorney can vary widely, so it\\\'s important to understand how much you can expect to pay. Look for an attorney who is transparent about their fees and billing practices and who offers a clear estimate of the total cost of your case. 5. Schedule a consultation: Finally, it\\\'s a good idea to schedule a consultation with a potential attorney before making your decision. This will give you a chance to meet the attorney, ask questions, and get a sense of whether they are a good fit for you and your case. BONUS: Trust your instincts. If you don\\\'t feel comfortable with an attorney, it may be best to look for someone else. By taking these steps, you can feel confident that you are choosing the right attorney to help you through your divorce. Remember, the right attorney can make all the difference in achieving a successful outcome and moving forward with your life.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Local knowledge can be very important to the success of clients\\\' cases, especially in areas of law that are heavily influenced by local rules, procedures, and customs. For example, family law cases such as divorce or child custody can vary significantly from state to state or even county to county. A lawyer with local knowledge is often better equipped to navigate the local legal system and understand the unique factors that may affect a client\\\'s case. This can include knowledge of local judges and their preferences, familiarity with local court procedures and deadlines, and understanding the local legal community. Additionally, local knowledge can also help lawyers to develop effective strategies and anticipate potential challenges. For example, a lawyer who is familiar with the local court system may be better able to predict how a judge will rule on a particular issue or anticipate arguments that may be made by opposing counsel. Overall, while local knowledge may not be essential in all cases, it can certainly be an advantage for clients seeking the best possible representation and outcome for their case.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

As an attorney licensed in both Illinois and Missouri, specializing in business law, divorce, and estates, and with a license in social work, what sets me apart from other lawyers in my community is my unique combination of skills and expertise. With my diverse background in law and social work, I offer a comprehensive approach that goes beyond purely legal considerations. I believe in providing holistic solutions that take into account not only the legal aspects of a case but also the emotional and social factors involved. By integrating my understanding of human behavior and relationships into my legal practice, I am able to offer my clients compassionate and empathetic guidance. I genuinely care about their well-being and strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for them, addressing both the legal and emotional dimensions of their cases.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is helping individuals and businesses navigate legal challenges, whether it\'s resolving complex business disputes, guiding clients through the emotionally charged process of divorce, or assisting families in estate planning, brings me immense satisfaction. Knowing that I can alleviate my clients\' legal burdens, provide them with sound advice, and protect their rights is incredibly fulfilling. What are your other interests in addition to law?

In addition to my passion for the law and my dedication to serving my clients, I have a diverse range of interests that enrich my life outside of work. One of my greatest passions is triathlon, and I take pride in having qualified for the Ironman World Championships. The discipline, perseverance, and mental fortitude required in training and competing resonate with my approach to the legal profession. Beyond the realm of athletics, I find solace in the world of literature, always eager to explore new ideas and perspectives through the pages of a good book. Furthermore, I enjoy engaging in strategic games such as poker, chess, and Monopoly, where critical thinking, tactical decision-making, and adaptability are key. These games provide a balance to my professional life, allowing me to exercise my analytical skills in a different context. By pursuing these diverse interests, I am able to maintain a well-rounded and balanced lifestyle that fuels my personal growth and enhances my ability to approach legal challenges from a broader perspective.

Are you involved in your community?

Community involvement is a core value that I hold dear, and I actively seek opportunities to contribute to the betterment of the community I serve. One of my recent endeavors has been to help establish a youth soccer club in our local area. Recognizing the importance of providing young individuals with opportunities for physical activity, teamwork, and personal growth, I have dedicated my time and expertise to support this initiative. From organizing fundraising events to coordinating training sessions and recruiting volunteers, I am committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for children to develop their soccer skills and foster a sense of camaraderie. By actively engaging in community projects like this, I strive to make a positive impact on the lives of young athletes and contribute to the overall well-being of our community. It is my belief that investing in our youth and fostering their development not only benefits them individually but also strengthens the fabric of our community as a whole.

  • Small Estate Affidavit
Outcome: Widow and children got hundreds of dollars from bank Description: Client's spouse died without a will, leaving behind a car and funds in bank accounts. Rather than paying the expensive probate costs, I helped the client complete small estate affidavits to transfer title of the vehicle (including navigating the DMV) and to receive access to the funds in the bank accounts.

  • Mother protects children from dangerous father with safe visitation schedule
Outcome: Mom feels safe for her children Description: A father asked the court for time with the children. However, the father had threatened the mother with scissors in front of the children, spanked the 4 month old for waking up at night, and refused to take his prescribed medication. I helped the mother get an order that limited the father's contact with the children and only during her presence.

  • Children can attend school
Outcome: Kids receive help from school so they can get an education Description: School threatened to hold back parents' daughter and simultaneously sued the parents for neglect of their children. Sadly, the oldest daughter had an illness that kept her hospitalized and made attending school impossible. The school, however, failed to meet several protections afforded to the parents and jumped the gun with their lawsuit. After a few months of negotiations, the suit was dropped, the school paid for a social worker to help the children, and the children could attend school.

  • Mom gets money father hid from her
Outcome: Increase in child support award Description: Mother asked court to increase child support but father claimed he didn't have any more money to give. As it turned out, the father had purchased a brand new Lexus with money from a second job that paid him in cash. The judge ordered the father to pay more money in support for the children.

  • Dad receives fair child support award and time with kids
Outcome: Dad is involved in children's lives Description: Father of three children lived out of state and the mother refused to let the children visit him. In addition, the mom had incorrectly gotten an order for support that the father couldn't afford. I got the judge to order a visitation plan for the dad to see the kids at his home and to reduce his support obligation.
