He has represented clients in the state and federal courts charged with crimes ranging from petit theft to first degree murder and include federal charges of drug trafficking and continuing criminal enterprises. Gary Kollin represents clients in the state and federal appeal courts and argued the case of Smith v. United States, 508 U.S. 223 (1993), before the United States Supreme Court where he was appointed to handle that case by the Court.

In the early 1990's Gary Kollin was counsel in a class action suit against the Sheriff where because of the illegal practice of post-acquittal detention, the Sheriff was ordered to pay damages in excess of $1,100,000 ($1.1 million).

Gary Kollin concentrates his legal practice in the areas of police misconduct, false arrests, illegal searches, excessive force, police brutality, and section 1983 constitutional civil rights. His 34 years of practice and experience in the criminal law arena where he is double Board Certified as an Expert in the areas of criminal trial law and criminal appellate law has provided him special insight into recognizing when the rights of citizens have been abused and trampled by law enforcement.

Kollin has sued multiple law enforcement agencies around the state including sheriff departments and municipal and county police departments. He also sued federal law enforcement agencies including the FBI and ATF and their agents.

Gary Kollin is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as an Expert in both Criminal Trial Law and Criminal Appellate Law.

Public bias against motorcyclists adds further challenges, potentially affecting police reports and jury decisions. Evidence collection is also more difficult, often requiring expert testimony and accident reconstruction. Overcoming these hurdles demands specialized knowledge to secure fair compensation.
