A former Deputy State's Attorney, in both Worcester and Dorchester Counties, Kathleen E. Smith has practiced law in Worcester County for over 30 years.  She handles felony and misdemeanor Criminal matters and practices before all State Courts in Maryland, as well as Administrative Agencies, including the MVA.  Her Practice Territory includes most of the Eastern Shore:  Worcester, Wicomico, Somerset, Caroline, Talbot, and Dorchester.  

MEDIATION:  
A Court Approved Mediator for over 20 years, Ms. Smith accepts both private and Court Ordered Mediation, which can be done in person at a convenient location, or virtually, with Court approval.  She is experienced in Mediation Facilitation of all types of civil matters, including both domestic and non-domestic matters, construction litigation cases, Personal Injury mediation and Condo and HOA disputes. Her reasonable mediation rates can be split between the parties or allocated according to the agreement of the parties.  This service typically saves thousands of dollars in legal fees, your lost time from work and other pursuits, not to mention your attorney's billable time, expert witness fees and Court Costs.  Even a partial resolution of a complex matter with a skilled and professional mediator can save huge amounts of time, and thousands of dollars.

Flat fee rates, such as those in most Criminal and Juvenile cases are payable before work begins.  Mediation fees are typically split between the parties, unless otherwise agreed.  DUI and DWI fees can range do not include Court Costs, Fines, or MVA fees.  MVA is an entirely separate matter and will be agreed to under a separate retainer agreement.  Cost for Private Investigator Services are a separate cost of litigation and are not included in the quoted legal fee.   Hourly rates are billed monthly after initial retainer, in increments of 1/10 an hour.  The standard hourly rate is $225.00, per hour unless otherwise agreed in writing.  Representation has not been agreed upon until the retainer agreement is signed by all parties and Ms. Smith. Court Costs, Administrative Fees and Fines are payable by the Client.
