Andre Lavoie vs. State of Indiana Outcome: Appellate Court affirmed, in a published opinion, the 71 year sentence Description: Defendant appealed the Court's sentence entered following his guilty plea to class A felony Child Molesting, class C felony Neglect of a Dependent, class C felony Child Exploitation, class C felony Criminal Confinement, class D felony Battery, and three counts of class D felony Intimidation. As a Deputy Attorney, Ms. Romine advocated on behalf of the state that the sentence was appropriate given the aggravating factors involved in the case. McReynolds vs. State of Indiana Outcome: Ms. Romine argued that babysitters are not privileged to use corporal punishment and it is not a defense to battery. The court affirmed the conviction and accepted Ms. Romine's position which established new law for the state of Indiana. Description: Defendant appealed his conviction arguing that he was entitled to the defense of corporal punishment as a babysitter.
